Preserving Our Heritage
Situated on the eastern end of Barnum Island in Washington Harbor, Isle Royale National Park, Johns Historical Point is a reconstruction and preservation of the Johns family homestead at the turn of the 19th century. It includes the first hotel on Isle Royale, which was constructed in 1890 and still stands today. In 1996, the Johns family received permission from the National Park Service to restore the point, starting with the Johns Hotel, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in August 1997.

Restoration ProgressIn the years since restoration began, the entire second story of the hotel has been jacked up to replace the rotten logs at the base of the structure, both porches have been reconstructed, the roof has been replaced multiple times, both levels have had the floorboards replaced, and many other components have been restored.
